General Information: The Main Street Construction Project here in McGregor will be split into two Phases. Phase 1 occurred last year (2023) and Phase 2 is occuring this year (2024). This years impacted will include west of the intersection of Main, B & 3rd Streets, to the Catholic Church and turning slightly onto Buell Avenue, just before reaching the school.
Phase 2: Phase 2 construction is set to begin Monday, April 1st, weather permitting, and will be ongoing through early fall. While this project is necessary and unavoidable for our community to address needed underground utility improvements, efforts continue to be made to minimize the impact to our businesses whenever possible. This includes making sure that tourists, patrons, tenants, vendors, distributors and delivery truck drivers will still have reasonable accessibility to get to the downtown businesses and riverfront areas.
Accessibility into Downtown McGregor and the riverfront: The best or most direct way to reach downtown McGregor and the riverfront from April 1st - mid September 2024 will be using the highway that runs along the riverfront from Marquette to McGregor. Until early July, all other access points into McGregor will allow motorists to reach downtown McGregor although there may be detours. From July until the completion of the project in early fall, motorists wanting to reach downtown McGregor from other access points into town will be detoured through Marquette using the highway between towns that runs along the riverfront.
Parking: Residential and church parking will be greatly impacted in Phase 2 (2024). It should also be noted that during construction there will temporarily be no on-street parking on C Street and much of Ann Street. Residents in need of parking will want to consider utilizing 4th, 5th and 6th Streets, the parking lots on either side of Steve’s Silver Dollar or making arrangements with other residents nearby who may have room to accommodate additional parking.

If you are unable to do this, our Public Works department is offering front yard pickup on Monday mornings for bagged garbage and recycling. To take advantage of this, you must sign up by contacting City Hall (if you didn’t already do so at the meeting). Please take note that this service will occur on Monday mornings and that all trash/recycling picked up from front yards must be in bags, not the toters or other containers.
Passenger & Hauling Services: We have volunteers with UTV’s that are willing to offer passenger and/or grocery or other hauling services on an as needed basis. If you think you may periodically or regularly need these services, please let City Hall know right away. We are wanting to ensure that we have enough help available for those who may need this service. Questions: Click here to access our Q&A page. Any additional questions related to the Main Street project can be directed to City Hall by calling (563)873-3795. If it is determined that your question needs to be directed to the project engineer or contractor, City Hall will put you in contact with them.
